We are delighted to welcome back John Traill to conduct this concert which comprises the Chopin Piano Concerto no. 1 played by Ivan Hovorun, and Schumann's 3rd symphony, known as the "Rhenish".

Ivan Hovorun
Ivan Hovorun was born in Ukraine in 1983 and began to play the piano at the age of five. His early studies were at the Krushelnytska Music High School with Lubov Hovorun and in 2001 he entered the Lysenko Music Academy in Lvov. His first public performance was at nine years old. At the age of twelve he won third prize in the international Ragusa Ibla Grand Prix Competition for Young Pianists in Italy and First Prize in the Farbotony international competition in the Ukraine. Ivan gained a scholarship to study at the Royal Northern School with Norma Fisher where he was awarded his Bachelor of Music and Post Graduate Certificate of Music. He is now in his first year of his Masters degree studies with Graham Scott.

John Traill
John Traill is making his third conducting visit to Guernsey having previously conducted the Guernsey Camerata in "Opera Highlights" in September 2008 featuring solist Elizabeth Traill (soprano) and Daniel Joy (tenor). John also conducted the Guernsey Symphony Orchestra in their July concert in 2007. John Traill is Principal Conductor of the City of Southampton Orchestra, the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra, Ensemble ISIS, Associate Conductor with the London Contemporary Music Group, and Director of Music at St. Anne College, Oxford. Trained by Rossen Milanov at the Mt. Vitosha International Conducting Institute in Bulgaria, John has also worked closely with Jonathan Sternberg, Christopher Adey, and composer Robert Saxton. Also a composer, John is the youngest person to have been awarded a DPhil in composition at the University of Oxford (2006).
